The Actress Says Mentioning Donald Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ That’s Ripping the Nation Apart

Lawrence has expressed that she believes it's no longer fitting to voice opinions against the Trump government, fearing it could exacerbate divisive discussions and further divisions within the United States.

‘I Question the Usefulness’, Explains the Actress

In a recent interview, she reflected, “When Trump was first in office, I felt like I was moving hastily in a panicked state. But as we’ve learned, election after election, public figures do not make a difference at all on voter decisions.”

The actor went on, “So then what am I doing? I’m just expressing personal views on something that’s going to worsen tensions tearing the nation apart.”

Shifting Views

Lawrence has spoken candidly about voting for both conservative and liberal presidential nominees in past elections. Brought up by Republican parents in Kentucky, she cast her ballot for the Republican nominee in 2008 prior to switching to the Democrats and stating she understood during President Obama’s term that backing conservatives was opposing her individual liberties as a woman.

Previous Comments

Earlier in her career, she commented that a Trump victory would be “a catastrophic event” and backed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. More recently, she gave her endorsement to Vice President Harris, “as I believe she’s an amazing candidate and I know that she will do whatever she can to protect abortion access.”

Hollywood’s Stance

Lawrence was aligned with most of Hollywood in her opposition to the former president as a presidential contender, but the minimal impact celebrities have over the electoral decisions was underscored by his election win.

“Another four years seems distinct,” noted she of his leadership. “Since he stated his intentions. We knew what he did for four years. He was transparent. And that’s what we chose.”

Latest Film

Lawrence is highlighting her new film, Lynne Ramsay’s drama in which she stars as a young mom who faces challenges with her emotional state in the countryside. Speaking at a press conference for the movie in Venice, Lawrence commented on the conflict in Gaza: “I’m terrified. It’s devastating. What’s taking place is no less than a atrocity and it’s horrible.”

Broader Concerns

Lawrence added by saying that she was saddened by “the hostility in the discourse of U.S. political debates right now and how that is going to be accepted to the kids now. It’s going to be standard to them that politicians lie.”

Lawrence sought to redirect anger about the issue to decision-makers rather than entertainers. “Concentrate on who is responsible,” she advised, which was interpreted as a reference to the then-recent pledge supported by numerous Hollywood professionals to refuse engagement with specific industry bodies.

Relatable Experiences

Lawrence, who received an Academy Award at a young age for her part in her breakout movie, is receiving praise for her portrayal in her latest project. Although the director has disputed the plot being interpreted as one of post-birth struggles and psychosis, the actress shared that she identified with elements of her character’s journey after the delivery of her youngest child, shortly after shooting ended.

“There was concern about my child,” she explained, “just picturing every negative outcome, and then second-guessing everything that I was doing. I was already in therapy, but I began using a medication called the prescription and I used it for a short period and it really helped.”

Film Challenges

The actor also discussed of the freeing requirement of filming without clothes in the project while she was some months pregnant and limited physically.

“It feels nice,” she commented, regarding the need to abandon insecurities. “Honestly, I sometimes think where I’m like, What separates me between my work and that profession? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
