Texas Attorney General Paxton is filing a lawsuit against the producers of acetaminophen, asserting the corporations withheld safety concerns that the drug presented to children's neurological development.

The lawsuit follows thirty days after Donald Trump promoted an unproven link between taking Tylenol - referred to as paracetamol - while pregnant and autism in offspring.

The attorney general is taking legal action against J&J, which once produced the drug, the sole analgesic recommended for women during pregnancy, and Kenvue, which currently produces it.

In a declaration, he stated they "misled consumers by making money from suffering and pushing pills without regard for the risks."

The manufacturer states there is no credible evidence linking acetaminophen to autism.

"These companies deceived for years, knowingly endangering numerous people to increase profits," the attorney general, a Republican, declared.

The manufacturer commented that it was "deeply concerned by the perpetuation of misinformation on the safety of acetaminophen and the possible consequences that could have on the well-being of American women and children."

On its website, the company also said it had "consistently assessed the relevant science and there is no credible data that shows a verified association between taking acetaminophen and autism spectrum disorder."

Organizations acting on behalf of doctors and health professionals agree.

The leading OB-GYN organization has said paracetamol - the primary component in Tylenol - is one of the few options for expectant mothers to address discomfort and elevated temperature, which can pose serious health risks if left untreated.

"In more than two decades of investigation on the use of paracetamol in pregnancy, zero credible investigations has conclusively proven that the usage of acetaminophen in any stage of gestation results in neurological conditions in offspring," the organization commented.

The lawsuit mentions latest statements from the previous government in claiming the medication is reportedly hazardous.

Last month, the former president caused concern from medical authorities when he instructed expectant mothers to "resist strongly" not to use Tylenol when ill.

The US Food and Drug Administration then released a statement that physicians should contemplate reducing the use of acetaminophen, while also stating that "a proven link" between the drug and autism spectrum disorder in children has not been established.

The Health Department head Robert F Kennedy Jr, who manages the Food and Drug Administration, had pledged in spring to undertake "extensive scientific investigation" that would identify the origin of autism in a short period.

But authorities warned that discovering a single cause of autism spectrum disorder - considered by experts to be the consequence of a intricate combination of genetic and environmental factors - would be difficult.
