Manchester United Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for United
The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Attack
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
