Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are confirmed to appear in the new Hunger Games series film, Sunrise on the Reaping.
Reports indicate that original actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to appear once again in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.
A Significant Comeback for the Franchise
Lawrence and Hutcherson are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. It is believed their cameos will probably be featured in a brief glimpse ahead, given that the original saga concluded with their characters settled into family life.
This represents the sixth installment in the global Hunger Games franchise.
The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a 2025 novel by series creator Suzanne Collins. It will be the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Returning to the director's chair is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed nearly all the previous films in the series.
The Storyline and Fresh Faces
The film's events are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the brutal 50th Hunger Games.
The film welcomes several accomplished actors in key parts:
- Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes is cast as a younger version of the calculating President Snow.
What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule
Separately, Jennifer Lawrence has been nominated for a Golden Globe for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson recently appeared in the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
Regarding the filming timeline:
- Principal photography started in the summer of 2025.
- Filming was completed in November of the same year.
- The much-discussed film is targeting a November 2026 premiere.
Audiences worldwide can now eagerly await the reunion of these iconic characters to the world of Panem.
