Enthusiasts anticipating the release of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined won't have to wait much longer. An highly anticipated trial experience is set to release on Jan. 7, granting a generous look into the game's initial chapters. Importantly, all advancement achieved within this demo can be imported directly into the full game upon its February release.

More Than a Simple Re-release: The Thorough Reimagining

This project is a ground-up reimagining of the seminal 2000 JRPG, originally titled Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. In a significant step away from other Dragon Quest re-releases, such as the recently released HD-2D iterations, this version adopts a charming 3D aesthetic. The world are designed to resemble detailed miniature worlds, with characters sporting a delightful stylized appearance.

"Even with the 3DS version, the narrative was still notoriously extended. Consequently, the team came to a conclusion that we wanted to streamline the story, [and] make this experience for today's players."

Major Gameplay Enhancements & Modernizations

The creators has added several changes to update the original gameplay loop. Among these are:

  • Expedited Field Encounters: Inspired by contemporary role-playing games, low-level foes can now be dispatched instantly on the overworld map without entering a full traditional battle screen.
  • Adjustable Battle Speed: Players have the option to accelerate combat animations to rapidly get past easier encounters.
  • New Job System: One completely new character role was added for this remake. Furthermore, characters gain the capacity to master a secondary vocation, greatly enhancing customization options.

Such refinements are aimed at mitigate one of the original game's frequent criticisms: its considerable scope. That initial storyline was known to take more than 100 hours to complete. This new version was specifically designed to enhance progression and cut down on perceived bloat.
