Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Player Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening stating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the NFL.

The organization omitted the name of Rice specifically in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Posted on Social Media

The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, shared a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the team drafted in the second round.

Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File

No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.

Rice's Prior Legal Issues

The receiver missed the first six games of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people injured. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

Statistically, Rice concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
