Bellingham Has to Cut Out the Immature behavior to Earn a Central Role Under Tuchel.

For Bellingham to aims to fight his way back into the English top squad, the smart move to cut out the dramatics. His response after noticing that he was going up after an evening of mixed performance in Tirana was unacceptable.

"I don’t want to make more out of it but I hold to my words 'behaviour is key' and respect towards the squad members who enter the game," stated Tuchel. "Substitutions happen and you have to accept it being a professional."

There is a lesson for Bellingham. There was no need for a tantrum. The captain had just put the Three Lions leading by two in an inconsequential qualifier, there were six minutes left and Bellingham, after a below-par performance, received a caution for fouling an opponent. This was hardly a debatable decision. In fact it would have been foolish for Tuchel to keep Bellingham on the pitch because there was a chance he would make himself ineligible of the first match of the World Cup by picking up a second yellow card.

Drawing Attention on Himself

However, the player drew all eyes toward himself. No one could overlook the 22-year-old’s disappointment when he clocked that he would be substituted for another player. He flung his arms in the air and while he exchanged a handshake while heading to the sideline it was obvious that Tuchel did not appreciate it.

This is the challenge that Bellingham must overcome. He praised Marcus Rashford for sending in the ball for Kane to head in his second goal, but the rest was self-defeating. It's not like complaining was going to change Tuchel’s mind. Tuchel has talked so much about respecting team hierarchies and the importance of behaving correctly.

In the Spotlight

He, not included in last month’s squad, is being watched carefully after returning to the team in the current camp. In effect he was being assessed and he hasn't helped his case with his response to being taken off as the national team completed a ideal group stage by seeing off a feisty challenge from the Albanian team.

Tactics and Formation

It means it's unclear on if the team operate most effectively including Bellingham. The evidence here was inconclusive. Some new ideas were tested from the manager in the beginning. He has given England organization and direction in recent months, employing a holding player, a box-to-box player, a playmaker and specialist wingers, but it felt different in this match. Quansah was given his first cap, the midfielder made his first start at this level and the role of the defender as a part-time midfielder created a passing resemblance to the Manchester club's team that won three trophies.

A Game of Two Halves

Bellingham had ups and downs. He set up a shot for his teammate during the second half but often looked trying too hard. Several poorly executed passes. There was a needless bit of aggro with a rival player at the beginning. The team looked disjointed for much of the second half. A scoring chance for the opponents followed Bellingham squandered possession. His booking was shown after an opponent took the ball by Broja and committed a foul on Broja.

Squad Strength Shows

In the end the bench quality was decisive. The coach brought on the Manchester City player, who looked better suited to the role that Bellingham had played earlier in the match, and Saka. Eventually Saka delivered a set-piece for Kane to break the deadlock. This served as a reminder that set pieces will play a key role in the upcoming tournament.

Connection Remains

Still, though, Bellingham was the story. The quality of Rashford's cross for the second goal was partly forgotten in the ridiculousness of the player change. After the final whistle, all eyes were on him. The coach approached to his side and guided the Real Madrid midfielder to acknowledge the away supporters. Their connection remains intact. The coach isn't ready to discard Bellingham yet. But if the coach is prepared to grant him centre stage remains in doubt.
