Antony Price, Renowned for Designing for Bowie and Duran Duran, Dies at 80.
Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect who crafted many legendary styles worn by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.
He was celebrated for his defined forms and performative fashion, including the soft-colored suits that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".
"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message on social media."
This news arrives just weeks after he presented his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by Princess Diana.
A Lasting Legacy
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he began designing clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show opened with outfits on model Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price designed for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.
Partnerships with Stars
A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the iconic jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his technical proficiency in shaping form-fitting garments established him as a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.
By the 1990s, he began working on ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included several ensembles for her US tour after becoming Duchess.
Following a profession lasting half a century, Price staged what would be his last show in London last month in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

The industry laments the passing to a authentic original whose legacy on style and culture remains deeply ingrained.
